Hope for the New Year

As we move into 2021 in earnest we once again asked our Board Chair Josh Rogers to share some thoughts on the year ahead. Here is Josh’s message to us all:

Happy new year!

With the full year ahead of us, most of us hold terrific hope that 2021 will be an improvement over 2020.

And there is great reason for that hope. Much of it is associated with the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines and the prospect of being able to safely return to many currently tabled in-person activities before the end of the year.

But there are other reasons for optimism for our local ALS community, including new—but also not so new—faces of leadership for our chapter. Next month, ALS Association St. Louis Regional Chapter CEO Maureen Barber Hill will retire after 10 exceptional years leading our efforts in the fight against ALS. I know I speak for all of us when I say how indebted our chapter is to Maureen for her unwavering commitment to our mission.

And while our organization just won’t be the same without Maureen at the helm, we will be in the highly capable hands of Katie McGovern, our chapter’s current director of development, who will take the reins as our next CEO. In addition, Natalie Pottebaum, our development manager, will assume the director of development position.

That our chapter will continue with these two familiar faces in new leadership roles is a wonderful testament to the organization Maureen has built during her tenure. It means individuals our constituents know and trust, who know our organization inside and out, will carry forward Maureen’s legacy, ready to tackle the next generation of challenges and opportunities our Chapter will encounter as we work together to defeat ALS.

For me, this passing of the baton gives me tremendous hope. And I hope you hold the same sense of optimism.

As we settle into 2021, I look forward to working with all of you, hopefully not entirely virtually before the year is said and done. In the meantime, I hope you will join me in thanking Maureen for all she has done to build the ALS Association St. Louis Regional Chapter into the incredible organization it is today; and in congratulating Katie and Natalie and wishing them a year of many successes.

Here’s to a great year,

—Josh Rogers
